It’s no surprise that the most successful people have great teachers and mentors. So why should it be any different for accountants? This applies to you even if you’re just a local business owner in Singapore. Accounting the language of business. So why not learn from the best?
A good Xero trainer is patient
Like with any new skill, practice makes perfect. But students often make mistakes during lessons. If your child was learning the piano and slipped up, would you want a teacher who yelled and criticised every mistake?
The same applies for adults learning accounting. Especially in the context of an online course, you’d want a Xero software trainer who is patient enough to repeat what he said. You’d like a trainer to be able to take a beat and rephrase what he said in an attempt to help you understand basic accounting concepts.
Naturally, a good Xero trainer is especially important for our basic Xero accounting courses. Without a strong foundation, anyone learning Xero software will simply memorise certain steps but never understand concepts. For example, students often memorise that machinery needs to be depreciated. But this isn’t always the case and other capital assets such as trademarks and copyrights can be written off as well (which is a similar concept of depreciation).
A good Xero trainer should have experience in the real world
Knowing how to use Xero isn’t enough. Your Xero software trainer should have actual experience using Xero in the real world. Ideally, he would have worked for either an accounting company or local SME in Singapore where he helped with bookkeeping, tax audits and reports, and business strategies to keep costs low and profits high.
An experienced Xero trainer would be able to share his real life experiences with the rest of the class. On top of that, he would be able to give actual good suggestions to business owners in various industries who may be looking to improve their business processes.
A good Xero trainer must have the right materials
As with all skills, notes and homework is a must. Despite our Xero online course only being a day long, we still give out homework. In addition to the notes given out on the first day, we will hand out homework at the end of the class testing you on everything taught. You will be tested from adding transactions in Xero to categorising different kinds of assets.
You will also receive notes that must be reviewed at the end of the class. It is a near guarantee that you will forget everything learnt unless revised. When applying concepts from our Xero course on your business, look at your notes and go over our case studies.
